I never understood the struggles of an undocumented person until recently. My best friend is still attending college even though she is far from becoming who she really wants to be, she dreams of becoming a Registered Nurse. I have never met anyone who works harder than she does, but despite her many obstacles she still aspires to be the best she can be. Being an American is about working hard, achieving your dreams, and paying taxes. All I see when see her is how alike we both are. The only difference between me and her is nine digit number. I believe it's time to give these Americans a fair chance at contributing to our country. Because they are just like you and I, they do not deserve to stand in the shadows anymore. Please pass the Dream Act now.

With the exception of Native Americans, all of our ancestors came from somewhere else probably to seek better opportunities. In the public school system we educate all children regardless of their birthplace. Many special programs are in place for English learners to help them succeed. We teach them skills to help them be successful in school. We want them to be "proficient" in standards set by the state. We tell them they can have any career if they stay in school and work hard to do their best. We want the best for them and encourage them to be their best. If these children are allowed to be educated and attend and graduate from college, what is it for if not to gain well-educated individuals who will benefit our society with their knowledge and skills in the workplace? They are given an unfair mixed message. As a teacher, I am saddened and discouraged that they are denied what should be an obvious right.

I was born in the United States to parents who are legal immigrants and American citizens. I am privileged to have this background because I have cousins and friends whom are illegal and are afraid of reaching that age when they graduate. I feel really bad for them because many times they are more deserving than American kids. Perhaps this is a good investment for the country because we will have more productive citizens.

Why not give them citizenship since they are upstanding persons? They have not been in trouble with the law, nor their parents. They do not belong to gangs and are very well mannered, so why not? I know "American" children who are hooligans yet their parents are against "illegals" wh wok. Why?
