We need to remember that we or our parents or our grandparents or whatever were once from a different part of the world, who came into America looking for freedom, and looking for a way to give future children the opportunity to do something that maybe there parents or grandparents couldn't do.
Shouldn't these people have the right to be given a chance to live a better life like we did???? =\

In this country we have a "problem" with illegal immigration. Why don't we make it easier for educated, lawful student be become kegal residents? This plan makes sense and Congress should, if not approve this act, at least take this idea and build upon it.
This country was built by immigrants and has always been known as a place of freedom and acceptance. Recently though, this image has been blemished and has begun to fade. Congress, I ask you to save our countries international appeal, for it may save our country as a whole.

I support this because illigal immigrant children never had a say so in deciding if they wanted to move to another country. I know how hard it isto feel like you belong in a society and have been raised in it and consider it your own although because of your migrant status nobody else looks at you this way, they only see you as an illigal immigrant. Hopefully if the Drean Act gets approved it will give thousands of illigal students the opportunity to better themselves and this country.

As a retired high school science teacher after 37 in the classroom I urge the Congress to pass the DREAM act to protect promising students from the disruption in their lives caused by forced deportation. These young people are an asset rather than a liability for our country and should be recognized for their potential to be the very best kind of citizen. As a teacher, I worked with my students irregardless of their personal history or origin with the single goal of helping them prepare for a worthwhile life. The idea that we in this country can condemn young people who have done everything we have asked them to do in their schooling to leave this (their) country against their will is cruel and inhumane. Surely, we can do better. Pass the DREAM Act.

How about instead of deporting immigrants who come here to better their lives and gain more oppurtunities for their families just because they are not legal residents, we deport all of the criminals in our jail systems who are citizens. Make room for people who actually want to contribute the the growth of our great nation.

I work with high school and college students to help them afford post-secondary education. For students who are undocumented, an affordable college option is very hard to find. With some students, it is possible to find scholarships and resources for them to pay for their college education - but what will happen after they graduate??? The DREAM act can change that, and allow them to contribute positively to their communities.

I believe that everyone who wants to prosper and who has the drive to become someone in life should be given the opportunity to do so. Education should not be refused to anyone because the truth of the matter is that many who can go to college after high school take it for granted. I went to high school with many students who would have had bright futures if it weren't for their legal status here in the United States. All of them were brought to the United States as children. They know no other country as their home. In fact, if you ask them, the United States is their home. I believe that if they are given the opportunity to become citizens of our country they would not only contribute positively to our society as professionals but they would also be proud citizens of this country. Let's make their dream come true.

I am 30 years old, and the dream act would finally complete me. The sorrow and depression of being undocumented can only be understood by people that are going through the same, and to a certain extent by their documented family members. We still have to eat, we still have to pay rent and even taxes. I have to feed my children and make a living somehow. I want to be an equal participant of this society. I'm not asking for a handout or for pity, but instead for fairness and acceptance.

posted by William McCown on Sep- 6-2010 - at 10:19:38PM from CA

Our founding fathers would have found it incomprehensible that anyone would oppose this legislation. To consider that someone would put their life on the line as a member of the military without a path to citizenship absolutely shows no gratitude for the sacrifice they are willing to put forth. Opposition to the Dream Act goes against the grain of the "give me your poor, your hungry, thirsting to be free" sentiment that once offered a path forward for hundreds of thousands of immigrants from Europe and other foreign countries. The story hasn't changed from the early 1900's. But now, the immigrants are from other places, but with the same thirst. Most of the young people who this bill applies to did not come here of their own volition, they came with their parents. They have lived along side of us, as part of us, and have been collectively raised by us as our children. They are, in effect, ours, and we have no other honor bound responsibility but to embrace them as our own, and march to the future as a family. My distant ancestors came here as what would now be considered illegal aliens. To deny these children, would be to deny our own ancestors. We weren't turned away. These children should likewise be accepted in the same way. William McCown

I have worked with many outstanding young people who fall into this category. Many of these are more conscientious and are of moral character than some native young people who take their citizenship for granted. We need Dream Act qualifiers to stay here and share their goodness with America and the world.

i strongly support the DREAM ACT. and I really hope President Obama pass the plan as soon as possible in order to let the country allow any of us being able to go to college for achieving further educations and degrees. so many people like me have been living in the darkness, and we need to see some changes of a new immigration policy. please pass the act.

The gifts that the undocumented immigrants bring to the nation are overwhelmingly greater than the cost that is perceived. We cannot afford keeping a section of our population in the the shadows of ignorance. Education is the key for the success of our state and our nation.

Let the children live their dream. Nothing should stop them from getting a better education.
